At the legal drinking age of 21, Brandon Williamson did not like the burning taste vodka left after drinking it. So, being the inventive young man that he is, he set out to develop a better tasting vodka after graduating from high school in 2013 in Orlando, Florida.
“I’m not a real heavy drinker and I disliked most ‘smooth’ vodkas,” he says. “So I found the problem and created a solution, a neutral vodka with no strong flavor or burn.”
Most vodka is sold in a clear or frosted bottle. Neuar Premium Vodka (a play on the word “entrepreneur”) is packaged in an all-black bottle with a gold power symbol as its logo, inspired by Brandon’s paternal grandfather, former Flint mayor and entrepreneur Don Williamson.
“I was lucky enough to be exposed to entrepreneurship, saw it, and worked hard to succeed,” Brandon says, crediting his success to his father Scott Williamson along with Don and his grandmother, auto dealer Patsy Lou. Locally, Neuar bottles can be purchased at Oliver T’s on Hill Road and by the cocktail at Soggy Bottom Bar on Martin Luther King Avenue in Flint and Sugarbush Golf Course and Madden’s Lounge, both in Davison.
Vodka is normally made from potatoes. Not so with Neuar Premium Vodka, which is gluten-free and made with de-ionized reverse osmosis water from 100% non-GMO corn. Neuar is distilled 26 times at a distillery in Lansing, using all Michigan products. Neuar Premium Vodka is meant to be consumed straight, but there are many great-tasting recipes on their website, neuarvodka.com. Check out Lansing Lemonade, Cucumber Lime Vojito, New Cosmo, Club Neuar and Neuar Vodcollins.
In addition to the Flint locations mentioned earlier, Neuar can be purchased in and around Detroit at Greektown Casino, Fishbones, Legends, Players, Punch Bowl Social xand Ocean Prime restaurant. All Michigan locations can be found at “Where You Can Find Us” on Neuar’s website, neuarvodka.com.
