// BY RACHELLE HENDRICKSON
Since 1987 the North End Soup Kitchen has been serving lunches and dinners in our community to those in need. In any given month they serve upwards of 2,700 meals to those in the community in need. There are many people who give their time and skills to help serve the community. Many local schools, families, individuals and organizations volunteer there regularly. My kids attended elementary school at St. Mary’s and they would volunteer there monthly. I would often go with them and help out. I was always so inspired by the people working and volunteering there. It was always a very humbling experience. We met so many nice people who volunteered their time regularly and kept things running smoothly.
Mt. Morris resident Bob Darley was someone who stood out to me. Bob is retired from Buick, where he was a skilled tradesman. Bob is married to his beautiful wife, Ginny, and they have three children, Beth, Jeff and Julie. Bob has been cooking up meals and volunteering there for 20 years. Bob says working at the soup kitchen to him is very fulfilling and enjoyable. Bob regularly meets lots of people who inspire him and he also loves to cook. When I talked to Bob, he was humble and said he just loves volunteering and helping out in the community. He has made so many friends over the years, and it’s nice to see some of the same faces returning and getting to know new people also. Thank you, Bob Darley, for being the difference. Our community is blessed to have you and many others who donate their time and efforts for the betterment of the community.
