ELGA Credit Union will be opening its 11th location, a new downtown Flint branch, in the former Perry Drug Store at 600 S. Saginaw St. It has been planned for the end of the fourth quarter of 2018 or early 2019. The building will have 24-hour ATM access. Currently, ELGA branches are located throughout Burton, Clio/Montrose, Davison, Fenton, Flint, Flushing, Goodrich, Lapeer and Saginaw. ELGA will also be opening a branch on Hill Road next to Applebee’s in Grand Blanc Township in 2019 or 2020. The old Perry Drug Store building is being restored as much as possible to its original beauty and will feature art from the acclaimed “Folks of Flint” exhibition by photographer Dan White.
“From our humble beginnings in 1951 serving Consumers Energy employees and their families, we are excited that we have been able to grow to serve our entire community,” CEO Karen Church says. “We now have 11 branches, online services and more than 70,000 members!”
ELGA Credit Union offers checking, savings, auto and home loans, Visa credit cards, investment services and a full range of commercial services for business members. They also offer financial education to members and others in the community. ELGA offers a robust student credit union program that teaches financial literacy to schools throughout the county, with more participating each year. In 2016, ELGA began a financial fitness program consisting of a 13-course series for adults. The courses, which have a wide range of topics, are taught throughout the community and all are welcome. An ELGA success coach can offer personalized guidance to individuals.
ELGA employees are extremely passionate about being involved in the communities they serve. Since 1951, they have assisted members in achieving financial goals and have lived by the credit union motto of “People Helping People.” ELGA partners with many community organizations, including schools, chambers of commerce, service organizations and nonprofits.
ELGA has a long tradition of sponsoring fundraisers and other charity events. Just this past year, it was part of the ABC 12 Diaper Drive, the Ginormous Tent sale to benefit Mr. Gaines Garden, ABC 12 School Spirit, medical debt forgiveness, and Community of Angels. Toward the end of the year, it will sponsor the “Classy, Brassy Christmas & More” with NBC 25 and the Capitol Theatre and collaborate with the Michigan State Police on Stuff a Blue Goose to benefit the Salvation Army Toy Closet.
